Santuario di San Domenico - Cocullo (AQ)

In the lower part of the village of Cocullo stands the famous Sanctuary of San Domenico, rebuilt between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century on the site of an older church, which was built in the seventeenth century. It has a rectangular plan with a beautiful Renaissance portal reassembled on its side.

The façade and the interiors are in late baroque and neoclassical style. The exterior, on the other hand, is characterized by a tower bell tower and a circular dome. Inside the Sanctuary there are three processional silver crosses of Sulmona manufacture of the fifteenth century, four reliquaries and sacred furnishings from Sulmonese dating back to the XV-XVII century. The faithful who come here perform the particular ceremony of the bell, which must be pulled with the teeth. The Shrine is the destination of thousands of pilgrims, then, every year on the first of May, when they relive the rites in honor of the saint in the Feast of Serpari.
