Pescasseroli is located in the upper Valle del Sangro, at 1167 m above sea level, in an amphitheater of mountains and centenarian woods, in the heart of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. Its territory preserves the wild beauty of the landscape and an extraordinary variety of flora and fauna. Strategic base, therefore, for nature excursions in a lively and engaging nature where the possibility of close encounter on the ski slopes with the animals of the park is real. In one of the most suggestive mountain areas of Italy, the locality represents the snow offer of the Park. It has long been known as an important winter sports resort equipped with five lifts that serve about 20 km of slopes. Part of its history is linked to transhumance, in fact the tratturo started towards Candela (Foggia). The inhabited center, which suffered considerable damage from the earthquake of 1915, still retains evidence of civil architecture. Native country of the philosopher Benedetto Croce, Pescasseroli also has a flourishing traditional craftsmanship, especially of wood. The dry and healthy climate, the excellent tourist, accommodation, sports and pleasure equipment make it the ideal place for a summer holiday and for the practice of winter sports, but also for holidays all year round. The various offers include the Visitor Center of the Abruzzo National Park, with a museum of natural history, a wildlife area and a botanical garden.
Not far away is Opi, one of the highest centers in the National Park of Abruzzo, an important place to spend white weeks and holidays in the snow in peace, and for the practice of cross-country skiing and trekking.
