Overview

Descrizione lunga

Are you keen on golf?
You absolutely must "try" the holes on the course that winds through olive groves and vineyards in Miglianico, a green that couldn't be greener.
The area, which was designed by one of the most famous American golf architects and is interspersed with artificial lakes, will strike you to the heart with its beauty and its 18 holes that are challenging and fun at the same time.

Besides, don't you consider the context in which you are? You are in the rolling hills of the Chietino area, "wedged" between the sea, the countryside and the mountains, in a fantastic climate and in one of the region's most important areas for grape growing and wine production - mainly Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Chardonnay. Here, vineyards cover the majority of the surrounding area and a village with a historic social winery and numerous other private ones.
But there is one more element that will surely cheer your soul. Miglianico, with its "PoetaMi" contest, is the "Village of Poetry". It has an annual event centered on this form of literature, from the written word to the recited one, which offers cultural events among the streets.
Play golf, listen to poetry and drink wine. Not bad at all as an alternative stay to the usual vacation.
How about that?
And then there is history.

Enjoy a walk through the historic centre whose origins are uncertain but it is reliable to assume that there was a Roman garrison in the area and that the village later developed around the fortress, which arose in the early medieval period. A testimony to that period are the remains of monumental ashlars of the castle (referable to the 10th-11th centuries), which was severely damaged in the last world war. Today you see it well restored and used as a private historical residence.

Also visit the church of San Michele Arcangelo, known as the Shrine of San Pantaleone, who was the patron saint of the village and was immortalized by painter Francesco Paolo Michetti and Gabriele d'Annunzio in his collection the "Novelle della Pescara". The original building dates back to the 18th century, while the present structure was rebuilt after the 1703 earthquake. The three artistic doors you can admire were inaugurated in 2018.

The feast that the town dedicates to "its" saint on the last Sunday of October is a grand event for pilgrims and the faithful, who come flocking to the shrine from all parts of the province. If you are in the area, we recommend that you participate, even if you are not a believer: it is a different way to experience and share the local "feeling".
Finally, all that remains is for you to "drown" the melancholy of departure in a glass of wine. The village is a member of the City of Wine Association and produces it with international success.
But, forget nostalgia, come back soon, Miglianico is waiting for you.
