Overview

Descrizione lunga

A village with very ancient origins, shelter of Fra' Pietro Angelerio who, in memory of this, founded the Priory of San Giovanni d'Acquasanta right here in 1235, just before becoming Pope Celestine V.

In Scontrone the connection between the medieval imprint and contemporary art is evident, thanks to the wonderful murals and sculptures that embellish the village.

But the beauty that attracts visitors is to be found in the landscape that this pretty mountain village holds. If you love walking immersed in nature, you can follow various nature trails and, trust us, you will be fascinated by the view that opens before your eyes. Let us give you a few examples so that you can enjoy your holiday in Scontrone in the best possible way.

In the Lumachelle district, you can take an easy walk that will give you a beautiful view of the mouth of Barrea. The trail starts in the village of Scontrone and always runs on a false level, through meadows and fields. You can admire places of natural interest and meet forest and mountain animals. If you are lucky, you will also spot deer, roe deer and the golden eagle.

From Passo Le Crocelle, however, you can enjoy an excursion, challenging only in the initial stretch, which crosses mountain pastures.

Here there is a wide and extensive panorama over the entire Mainarde chain and the mountains of the park as far as Petroso. There is also a remarkable view of much of the mouth of Barrea. In the second part, the path enters beech woods alternating with wide clearings and mountain meadows.

Proceeding along these paths, from the pass you can reach the summit of Spino Rotondo in about 20 minutes by keeping to the small ridge, or you can proceed to the Stazzo dell'Acqua Puzza by following the marked path where you can admire forest and mountain fauna and be enchanted by its many viewpoints.
