It looks like an invented place, Roccascalegna, a castle narrated in some fairy tale, or ancient novel. Instead, this beautiful castle really exists, and it is so beautiful that it was chosen as the location for the film "The Tale of Tales" by Matteo Garrone. Set on a rocky spur, it dominates the medieval village, the valley of the Rio Secco and the wide valley of the Sangro, like an ancient guardian, imposing and taciturn. To visit it means to immerse oneself in the fascination of the ancient Middle Ages, to lose oneself in observing the vestibule with its herringbone bricks, the sentinel tower, to then cross some irregular environments and reach the prison tower, the Angioina, the church, the sighting tower, the external walkway ... an exciting visit, an intense experience.
