Overview
Welcome to the "Lido delle Rose". (Beach of Roses). Yes, because the beautiful resort on the Teramo coast is known by this appellation in honor of the colorful rose bushes and oleanders that once populated the waterfront streets.
Among the seven pearls of the "Garden Coast", along with Martinsicuro, Alba Adriatica, Tortoreto, Giulianova, Pineto and Silvi, between the mouths of the Tordino and Vomano rivers, there is one of the most important tourist centers of the Abruzzo Riviera thanks to its wide sandy beaches. It can be reached by a beautiful bicycle path. The coastline alternates wild and unspoiled stretches of coastline with beaches equipped for all the needs of those who prefer a totally relaxing vacation, suitable for pets’ lovers.
The area offers superb scenic beauty and, although the sea has always been the main calling card, the hills are the perfect place if you want to discover an unusual and fascinating aspect of the town. Roseto was founded 135 years ago as an emanation of the ancient medieval village of Montepagano. From here you can enjoy a splendid circular panorama that stretches from the Adriatic Sea to the peaks of the Gran Sasso d'Italia.
If you are keen on nature, outdoors and wild landscapes, you cannot miss a visit to the Borsacchio Nature Reserve, a protected area of pristine beauty characterized by the presence of dunes and stretches of Mediterranean scrub, the natural habitat of rare species of birds. In the middle of this enchanting paradise stands Villa Mazzarosa Devincenzi, an early 20th century building where Senator Giuseppe Devincenzi, a politician and agronomist, built his laboratory for agricultural experimentation. Europe's largest oak barrel is preserved in the cellar area.
On your city tour you should stop to admire the Church of Santa Maria Assunta (former Church of Santa Filomena). It was built in the early 1900s and it features a characteristic terracotta altar together with the painting "The Holy Family," by the painter Pasquale Celommi.
If you love combining the discovery of the area with outdoor activities, you can ride on the bike path that runs parallel to the sea from the bank of the Vomano River to the bridge over the Tordino River. It features a section of the Bike to Coast, the scenic bike and pedestrian path built along the entire Abruzzo coastline. Within the Borsacchio Reserve, the dirt track will allow you to immerse yourself in the typical Mediterranean vegetation.
The seafood cuisine is the protagonist with many restaurants, beach resorts and taverns where you can savor the taste of the traditional seafood. On the other hand, if you prefer the flavors of the land, the surrounding valleys offer high-quality IGP-certified meats, as well as wines and oils recognized with DOC and DOP marks.
